There are many ways to find free summer meals for school-age children, with no registration or proof of income required. Here are five resources to start your search:
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s SUN Programs
This program provides free meals and snacks to children and teens in low-income areas. To find a site, call 2-1-1 or text "FOOD" to 304-304. You can also use the Summer Meals Finder Map to search for meal sites near you by address or zip code.
Food Banks
There are banks across the United States that offer food to people in need. Use the Feeding America map to find programs near you.
Your Child’s School
Contact your child’s school district or check their website. With millions of students dependent on free or reduced-price meals during the school year, schools often offer summer meal programs or can help you find resources in your area.
Religious Organizations
Some churches and other religious organizations may offer free meals to the community. Contact or visit a religious organization near you to learn more.
Do you already receive government food assistance? You might get more through SUN Bucks
If you’re already enrolled in benefits like Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, food stamps) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), your children will automatically be enrolled in SUN Bucks if it’s available where you live. Families with eligible school-aged children can get $120 per child to buy groceries during the summer. SUN Bucks may have a different name depending on your location. If you are not automatically enrolled, you can apply for SUN Bucks directly if you meet income limits and other requirements. Learn more by visiting the USDA website.
